<Meeting summary by Aditi - this is the first posting on this website!>

The meeting began with a brief explanation of how the reading of Kim Jiyoung was being conducted. A section of the book had been divided into different parts by 백선생님, which were assigned to the ‘leaders’ who had expressed interest in reading the book. In this meeting, Matthew, Aditi and Yoon had done the reading and presented a summary (in English) of each of their parts. They also each read out loud a few lines from their parts. Each part prompted a short discussion about its content, including a discussion of certain Korean words and expressions used. The reading activity was followed by a discussion (in Korean, with some English) about workplace gender discrimination in Korea. Members of the group also shared their own experiences of witnessing discrimination in Australia. At the end of the meeting, it was decided that next week’s theme would be Korea-China relations.
